I Was There” is a ongoing project that explores the essence of landscapes through colour. Each location reveals a unique palette – a distinct harmony of hues that defines its identity. These chromatic combinations offers a new way to experience landscape – one that mirrors human perception, yet is made visible only through technology.

The colour graduations represented by sky, sand, soil, fields, trees, flowers & water – exist all around us, yet are rarely perceived in this distilled form. By isolating and reinterpreting them as bands of colour, we reveal the abstract essence of each place.

The gradiations below are collected from countryside and sea-lnad locations in England, Wales, Japan, Italy and Spain.

Every composition of stripes is unique to its location and moment in time – a visual fingerprint of place. Though the names of the sites remain undisclosed, viewers are invited to embark on a visual journey through the landscapes we visited. For those wishing to uncover their origins, each image is accompanied by GPS coordinates – a quiet clue to discover where I was.

This project began as an extension of my husband’s work, “City Scans,” which focuses on the urban environment — commuters, people, and transport. While his lens was drawn to movement and human presence, I was attracted by the colour combinations and stripes within the imagery he created. I asked him to capture specific tranquil scenes devoid of people and vehicles. That request became the foundation of our collaborative work “I Was There”.
